You may be wondering why our congregation numbers are given as approximate. We do not keep formal membership rosters and consider ourselves a "reformation movement" rather than a "denomination". The Church of God firmly believes in the Word of God in Acts 2:47--"and God added to the Church daily those who were being saved". Therefore, as persons are saved, they become members of God's great Church. The Church of God recognizes all true Christians, by their own declaration of faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and regardless of denomination, as fellow members of God's Church. Each congregation of the Church of God establishes their own set of by-laws to govern the operation of the local church, but the Holy Bible is our only source for doctrine.

Morganton First Church of God was pleased to host two other congregations in its facilities several years ago. There was a Spanish speaking congregation, recently affiliated with the Church of God, Anderson, Indiana and one protestant Hmong congregation meeting here each week. In the spirit of Christian unity, joint services were held with these congregations with interpreters provided. These congregations have now found facilities of their own as of June 2004. We pray for God's blessings on them as they expand the Kingdom in their new facilities.
Morganton First Church of God now helps support a church in Manaoag, Philippines, Manaoag First Church of God. The church was established by Albert and Leony Cates who worshiped in our congregation for a number of years until the Cates felt the call of God to return to Leony's native country and start a prostestant church in her home town. Our church also sponsors 42 children in the Manaoag First Church of God "Children of Faith" program. This program provides food and school supplies for school age children. The church sponsors a school for children from the 1st through the 4th grade. Hopefully we will soon have a page on our website dedicated to the Manaoag First Church of God.
